Trumpet Ensemble

The ASU Trumpet Ensemble performs regularly in concert as well as in collaboration with nationally-known performers. Under the direction of Dr. John Irish, the ensemble was specially invited to perform at the 43rd annual conference of the International Trumpet Guild (ITG), in San Antonio, Texas, May 2018 as well as the 28th ITG conference held in Fort Worth, Texas in May, 2003. The group was also featured at the first Regional ITG conference in Oklahoma City in January, 2018. Then, one month later, also performed at the Trumpet Festival in West Chester, Pennsylvania.
The ensemble was fortunate to participate in a series of master classes and performances in the Philadelphia and southern New Jersey area in 2018 and 2014 through a series of performance- and research-based grants from Angelo State University. They remain active in the San Angelo area performing both on and off campus.
Their most recent activity has been performing with the Lone Star State Trumpet Guild, an affiliate chapter of the ITG. These performances include the prestigious Texas Music Educators Association convention in San Antonio, Texas, at a special ITG chapter event in Odessa, Texas with featured guest artist, Rex Richardson, and in a chamber music series in Abilene, February, 2020.
The ensemble recently had the opportunity to participate in master class sessions with Vicente Campos, Superior Conservatory of Music of Valencia (Spain); Dr. Leonard Candelaria, Regents Professor, University of North Texas (ret.); Bert Truax, Dallas Symphony Orchestra (ret.); Scott Belck, University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music; Paul Stephens, former lead trumpet player for Maynard Ferguson, Nicholas Payton, and the US Army Blues; and Rex Richardson, world-renowned trumpet soloist.
